Conversation Starters To Die For
I’m having trouble coming up with conversation starters (as explained in the title). Any suggestions? And I would prefer it if they weren’t boring ones like "what was the homework assignment?". Something interesting! Please! Thanks!

It depends on what you know about the person you want to talk to. If you know that person’s interests, try talking about that. For example, if the person likes a specific music group, ask him/her what his/her favorite song from that group is. Or ask if he/she is going to the concert (if there is one coming up). Be sure to study up on the group so you can talk intelligently about them.
If you don’t know the person very well, but would like to, ask something like:
What do you think about our Sociology Professor?
How did you do on that test?
What is your thesis paper going to be about?
Do you know of any study groups for _________________(name the subject)?
There are some tips for starting conversations with people.
1. People like to talk about themselves, so ask questions about him/her.
2. Ask open ended questions. These are questions that cannot be answered with a simple "yes", "no" or "I don’t know answer".
3. When the person answers, listen for what the next question could be. For example, if you ask about what he/she thinks about your sociology professor and he/she answers and says "I just really hate his tests", then you could ask: "Would you like to study together?"
4. Lulls in the conversation are normal. Don’t sweat them. Just take a minute to think about what you could ask or talk about next.
5. When talking with someone, don’t match tit for tat. If he/she tells you a story about how he/she broke his/her arm, don’t match that by telling a story about how you broke your leg. Keep the focus on him/her and not so much on yourself.
6. Actually listen to what he/she is saying. Later, when he/she sees that you have remembered something, it will make a more lasting impression.
