I haven’t had a …
I haven’t had a perm in 8 months, and now I am throwing out the weave ! His movie is very educational, I’ve always wanted to know “what am I doing”? Why am I ashamed of my real hair? Why do it strike a nerve to be called nappy? After seeing this movie I’ve realized that none of it is important compared to being USED!I’ve also noticed that without all that junk in my hair it feels better to me and it grows faster. Actually it feels spectacular, harder to manage but I love the straw curls!
i have seen a …
i have seen a programmme before but the weave for white woman came from russia and it was bought off them for a low price and the indian weave was for black woman also ppl would get hair in scrap yards in india this is the ‘lower grade’ human hair
loved your comments …
loved your comments. I didn’t know alot of this stuff. since chris rocks movie, I have made the commitment to go natural. your hair is beautiful and so are you! thanks for the information.
liliokilani,
You …
liliokilani,
You were deleted previously for engaging in an argument in my comments section. It had nothing to do with your opinion. Ironically, I actually agree with much of your opinion. But I’ve asked you kindly to be respectful. Respect that. Or next time you will be blocked.
Bottom line is …
Bottom line is accept you for YOU.
I agree with your …
I agree with your statement. It is a scandal what people do in the name of ‘religion’. The sad thing is that the one’s who are giving their hair willingly to their gods/goddesses don’t even know what’s really going to happen to it. I would be highly upset (understatement) to know that my tithe money or whatever I’m giving to God is being used or misused this way.
Natural hair is the …
Natural hair is the hair you were born with. There is no good or bad hair. Even throughout other races there are different textures of hair. in my opinion it is all about trying to be accepted by a community of people who have never fully accepted who we are. Just because you slap a wig on or throw a perm in your hair, you will always be BLACK to them. It’s about learning to accept yourself for your self.
-applauds- I …
-applauds- I totally agree with that whole statement. If we don’t uphold our own as a race, we will lose out cultural uniqueness. Be it with our traditions, our values or our image. We have to do it for ourselves.
even more so than …
even more so than our color the hair defines black ppl/ africans. There is a war going on since the slave trade that has not ended n it is up to us as individuals to know history n due our part n preserve our uniqueness as a race. image does matter everything in life does do not take anything for granted nothing was created in vain. African ppl love ur self more, before american there were the african. we still here!
Makes me wonder too …
Makes me wonder too.. We are nto to pollute our bodies with food sacrificed to idols. But what about wearing hair sacrificed to idols. Seems like it is another way of defiling the bodies of the women who are wearing it, not just the bodies of those being deceived into giving it!
Agreed. Knowing …
Agreed. Knowing what happens to most of these girls (that they are enslaved by an early age and forced to work or sold as sexual slaves or to older men for marriage by the age of 11 or 12 is equally hard to stomach. The vicitimization of these girls and the view of them as chattle should wake a lot of people up who think it is all abotu their own fashion. Chris Rock… er….. uh… rocks! LOL!
AGREED! I know …
AGREED! I know EXACTLY what you mean. Having hair that does not fit into other people’s expectation (black white or martian, whatever) it gets old and very very tired listening to the stupid asanine comments about what your hair is and is not. Hey I like Chris Rock, he’s not trying to be a “hair expert” he’s jsut trying to find out what is happening and be silly about it. He is an awesome guy to listen to!
This is gogin to …
This is gogin to have to be like that whole “no dolphins killed when tuna is caught” thing in the 1980’s. There MUST be some kind of gurantee that the hair is nto stolen or illegally obtained through fraud and usery! All women should insist on that ESPECIALLY BLACK women. Women are the source of protection for other women in this world. There is a HUGE social responsibility involved in this issue! And deleting my comments is NOT going to change that.
I’m sure you will …
I’m sure you will be just beautiful with your own hair. That whole thing about shaving those kids heads really upset and angered me. Those poor babies being exploited by their “religion.” Now that people know it may stop those evil people exploiting the women and girls from gaining financially from hair theft!
By the time I heard …
By the time I heard them say that the hair has BUGS and LICE in it…I was done. I have been natural for 2 years now and will continue to stay that way…and I’m just sooo sick of weaves. I do wear braids sometimes..but now the thought of human hair…grosses me out.
you have very …
you have very beautiful glowing skin
I wish I could give …
I wish I could give you a thousand thumbs up for the last sentence of your comment-excellent point.
Five stars! I would …
Five stars! I would love to have honest conversations about the underlying hair issue we have but many if not most (processed & weaved) and some (natural) women refuse to discuss this issue in a sensible manner. They just want to say that “it’s just hair” and keep it movin. So it’s very difficult. As a natural head I’m just more likely to say-do you and hope people come to their senses-at least for their own good b/c i’m really about to stop caring and continue to do me.
5 stars*********** …
5 stars*********** ur so right!?!
It’s sad that these …
It’s sad that these temples are making a profit from the hair of these babies. It makes me feel ashamed, why is it that black women feel the need to have this hair? I hope that we as a people can go back to who we really are and stop trying to be some else, very interesting.
Iam so glad Chris …
Iam so glad Chris did this documentary, I hope our black women take note and start wearing your own natural hair! I’ve been natural for four months, and I love it! NAPPY BUT HAPPY
Great point Kimmay! …
Great point Kimmay! I dont know how I feel yet, didnt see Oprah or the movie, its out here on the 23rd. This is interesting though, puts a diff spin on things. Kinda like diamonds, hmm. More than anything its sad, sad that the people arent getting any monetary benefit from their own hair. Im going to have to think about this one.
Hi tay5667,
…
Hi tay5667,
Thanks for your comment. As for cancer survivors who wear human hair, this has already been addressed. The *ethical* question of whether or not to wear human hair taken from the heads of babies & girls isn’t negated just because the hair purchaser has cancer.
Hair purchased from *willing adult* donors via *fair trade* would be most ethical.
It’s as simple as that. How can any fair-minded, respectful person be against buying hair in a more ethical way?
The hair from india …
The hair from india is the Virgin Indian hair. There are many types of hair, So those of you who need or want 2 wear hair by choice dont have 2 feel guilty. My aunt is bald from having cancer and after losing her beautiful hair, one of her comforts was to wear a wig similar to her hair. I would nevr judge her for that. Just b happy with your hair and individual hair preferences. And AA ladies yes with proper care including a healthy diet your hair will and does grow. Maintenance is key
yall women crazy. i …
yall women crazy. i know a grown black woman in the hood that argue with me . she say sum black irls cant grow hair. she so dumb. all yall should just shave ya heads bald. aand let it grow long natural.
