I would prefer to say or ask something technical, but not TOO technical. Perhaps ask a question that I can turn into a conversation? I don’t want to give away that I like someone before I have talked to them, so smiling at them is not going to work.
Maybe a variation on "Can I borrow your cell phone?" Only I don’t want to waste people’s minutes XD
Today, I was walking around taking pictures outside at the park, and I saw a guy skateboarding. I’m really shy, so I had to take a deep breath, then asked if I could take a few pictures of him for my art project, he was flattered and we ended up having a photo shoot!
