The best things are open ended but quite focussed so they’ll give her something to talk about and you can ask her for more details or swap stories. Link it to your opening comment so you don’t sound wierd. For example if you meet someone in a bar and start off with “it’s crowded tonight” or something, an open ended question would be “what’s the best night out you’ve had” “if you could go anywhere else tonight where would you chose and why?” Make sure you have some stories too so you can tell them and encourage her to start talking to you.
Good open ended questions are “what was your first…” pet/friend/place of work. “what do you think about….” your job/some band. Regardless of where you meet a person “what have you been up to today?” is a good starter. People enjoy answering it as others don’t usually care!

Ask him what he likes to do in his spare time.
Ask him what he does for a living and how does he like his job?
Ask him to tell you about his family.
Or just flat out say, tell me about yourself, I am very interested in learning all about you.

Well the ages differ.
Basically from 12-45. I know large age range, but we all like to talk and laugh.
By the way, I'm looking for creative things, like for example:

Well once again it all depends on what the people are interested in.
Asking the guys weather they think Texas A&M will beat Texas this year, like they did last year, or if Detroit can pull a rabbit out of their helmets this year…But these types of questions have a habit boring half the people there until the fist fights break out with the other half.
I would suggest telling shortly what thanksgiving was like at you house growing up…something specific…it doesn’t have to be aimed at “the group” jus one or two people would do…the tradition of sending off the leftovers with whoever couldn’t cook… the first time dad deep fried a turkey, and all the nice firemen you meet, that year…the cranberry sauce that nobody actually liked but was still there every year…everybody has a story like that, share your first and draw out the other peoples with theirs, or just ask if you were weird for being the only one who put up the xmas tree after dinner…anything works just be open, and remember, is easy to get people to remember the good times and talk about them, and if you know someone has a story like that…call them out…but they don't have to open up if you won't
And remember when getting rid of the leftovers, ask if anyone wants anything…don’t say “You can’t cook want some ham for later…sandwiches are easy”…

Any current event. My husband and I have been married for 10 years so finding new topics of conversation aren't that easy to find. At some point during our day each of us will read the news (try to stick with light material … sports, entertainment, etc.). the end of the day we share what we read with each other. It always leads to a converstation.
I’m terrible at starting conversations with people I usually don’t talk to. Since there are many pretty girls at my school what kinds of things can I say to start a conversation with them.
One in particular I know is a vegan (not much else) just wondering what I can say to get them to talk to me more.
